SEO – A few simple tips
This is actualy really basic when it comes to SEO, but I’m not sure everyone is aware of it yet.
This simple little tip is about naming your pictures and videos properly.
I have seen MANY people online NOT doing this. – They are missing out on some free search engine traffic.
All you have to do is simply naming the pictures you upload with relevant keywords, or even just the name of the picture. What it’s all about. That means that you should NOT upload and use a picture called “img367″ and use it on your website. Then you will have NO CHANCE AT ALL to recieve any traffic from it. Instead, if it is a picture of a dog playing with a ball, call it “dogplayingwithball”. Without hyphens.
If you use hyphens in your URL, google will separate the words. So it will then rank you on dog, playing, with, ball, if you name it “dog-playing-with-ball.jpg”. And those words are a lot harder to recieve a decent ranking for. This goes for all domains. Don’t use hyphens if your keyword is long.
To take the example again, if anyone is searching for “dog playing with ball” and you have named your picture “dogplayingwithball.jpg”, you are most likely to get a good ranking. This is also because it is a long keyword phrase, as well as very few people know of this little trick.
The same goes for videos, and main url. So if this blog’s domain was “i-marketing-blog.org”, google would split it, and focus on each separate word. It might look better in some url’s, but you get SEO disadvantages.
That’s all! And good luck!

Preben,
Got your link off the WF! This is a great tip; I would have never known to do that. I have images in almost every blog post plus video tutorials. Now I’m kicking myself for all that extra traffic I could have had but lost. Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m brand new to SEO stuff….ugh.
Best,
~Danielle

I’m glad you like it =)
If you have many pictures and video’s, you will benefit massively from this, as most people aren’t aware of this. At least not people who’s new to SEO.
I truly hope my tip will bring you lots of traffic and sales.
Good luck! And keep on following this category for more tips like this =)

This is a good thing to remember although it is instinctual. I will certainly try it.
Another thing to remember is to always, always, always put in alt tags on all of your graphics.
I sometimes even do this with bullets.
I urge everyone to be ruthless with alt tags in order to help the SEs tell what the pictures on your page relate to. I have found this provides a very good boost, also.

Also note that the FFA (‘free for all’) linking does not help in increasing your rank. Even google says that.

That’s a pretty good tip about not using the hyphens. So many people use the hyphens which creates even more competition.

Yeah, MANY people are doing it. And I don’t blame them either, as there are plenty of “guru’s” who teach people to do so. At least I’ve seen some products that teaches a way of cranking out websites quickly, and use hyphens for long-tail keywords in their domains.
I even saw a “guru” product a few days ago that will teach you how to get over 10000 HITS to your websites, as well as how much money that will be when it converts. Seriously, it pisses me off when someone tries to convince their visitors that they can convert hits to sales, when hits has nothing to do with visitors. And even on the SALESPAGE.

Hey, this is a bit irrelevant, but I noticed your blog page loaded lightning fast compared to mine. So I was wondering are you using dedicated hosting or shared hosting? thanks.

It’s called “Ultimate Blogging Theme”. It’s the one I’m advertising in the sidebar =P

I’m using shared hosting. – The one called “Baby Croc” at hostgator.
I actually have MANY sites on that account, and I’d recommend it to everyone.
